Business Succession Planning Workshop
November 10, 2010
The Cumberland Regional Economic Development Association (CREDA) is partnering with the Acadia Centre for Social and Business Enterprise (ACSBE), the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA), Nova Scotia Business Inc. and CBDC Cumberland to present “Beyond Your Business” a step-by-step Succession Planning information session on Thursday, November 18th from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm at the Wandlyn Inn in West Amherst.
Paul Hopper, CREDA Business Development Officer invites members of the Cumberland County business community to sign up for the one-day information session. “ Succession planning is your opportunity to take control of the future, and is something that needs to be considered at every stage of your business’s development,” Hopper said. “For many this means developing a strategy to exit from their business. But succession planning is also about protecting the people we care about. For example, what would happen if you were diagnosed with a major health issue or involved in an accident? How would your absence impact your business, family and community?”
Statistics show that more than 40% of business owners plan to leave their businesses in the next five years and yet, over 60% do not have a formal exit strategy.
The information session will feature presentations and panel discussions with top local and regional professionals including: Susan McIsaac FCA, McIsaac Darragh Chartered Accountants; Stephen Maltby CA Investment Advisor, The Maltby Casey Investment Group; Paul MacNeil CA- CBV, Belliveau Veinotte Inc. Chartered Accountants; Henry Visser CA TEP, McInnes Cooper; and Lonny Gelinas, Business Development Bank of Canada.
The session will be facilitated by Tim Alison, an Associate with the Acadia Centre for Social and Business Entrepreneurship. Alison is an experienced entrepreneur and author of Life with an Ocean View: Creating Success and Happiness Away from the Rat Race.
Cost is 79 dollars plus HST with lunch included. Fee also includes three webinars, a half-day wrap up session and a Succession Planning Tool Kit - a 30 dollar value.
To register, contact CREDA at 667-3638 or drop in to the office at 35 Church Street, Amherst. For more information contact Paul Hopper or Vince Byrne at 667-3638.
